On inspection of the pitch it was clear the toss would have a huge impact on proceedings and thankfully captain Ben Edwards called correctly and Borderers were bowling first.
East Dean started well and before long they were 50-0 and looking unfairly untroubled. Thankfully Borderers opening pair Callum Wood (11-4-29-1) and Dan Heuston (7-0-31-1) both struck in quick succession and both opening batsmen were back in the pavilion. The next two batsmen tried there best to give catching practice to a Borderers fielder but he tried his best to keep them both at the crease! Once Emmerson Wood was brought into the attack East Dean never looked like scoring and some good fielding saw Borderers complete a run out. Wood was well supported by Josh Moor (6-0-14-2) at the other end and East Dean were bowled out for 90 with their last 6 wickets lost for only 6 runs. E Wood was the pick of the bowlers picking up 5 wickets for the second week running (9.3-6-10-5).
The Borderers batting innings started off strong just like the hosts and soon were 50-0 off very few overs. Dan Heuston (34) and Rob Teague (25) were batting well and scoring freely! But cue a typical Borderers batting collapse and no fewer than 3 golden ducks from R Jefferies, B Edwards and E Wood; The visitors found themselves 6 wickets down but thankfully opening bowler Callum Wood (17*) calmed all nerves and batted like a batsman for once and got Borderers over the line!
Borderers moved up to 2nd in the table and look to extend their winning run to four games when Pevensey visit St Marks this Saturday!
